Network Video Recorder

NVR’s are the core of the IP security camera system.  Most standard NVR’s can record at resolutions up to 1080p or 1920X1080.  We also carry NVR systems that can record 3.0 megapixel, 5.0 megapixel and even high megapixel IP cameras. IP security camera systems use network cabling to transmit their signal so they are easy systems to implement onto an existing network.

The network video recorder is the main brain of the IP security camera system.  The video footage is recorded digitally onto a hard drive. All of the IP security cameras are plugged into a network switch. Some of our NVR systems even have built in POe switches built into them. POe is power over ethernet so the video signal and power is transmitted across the cat5 or cat6 cabling. This makes for a very easy cabling installation.

Units generally come in 4 channel, 8 channel and 16 channel models. Systems can also be installed using a computer with special software.  Very large recording systems may use a server with software to record over 100 ip camera streams. The channels is how many cameras can be connected to that particular NVR.

Most security recorders have multiple ways that you can program them.  You can have them record continually which uses the most hard drive space.  You can have them record only during specific times of the day which is done in schedule mode. The most popular is to program the NVR to only record on motion detection.  This way the network video recorder will analyze or watch each camera and then enable recording only if it detects motion.  There are different resolutions and frame rates that they can record at.

This is the remote software that allows you to log into your NVR and review recordings.
